Road Trip to Fun

Last Saturday has been very fun!  My cousins and I went to a conservative bridal shower in Astoria Plaza, stayed in soho for a bit to chat with my aunt, drank in The Reserve in Ortigas, then to Eastwood for "old times sake", followed by road trip from Katipunan only to end up in Karaoke Republic in Timog.  

Let's try your lounge in the Fort next time Ate Utay?  Let me lose my fat reserve first.  LOL!!

Company Day at STILTS Calatagan, Batangas

First off, it's not pronounced as STEELTS.  I haven't blogged in a while and I am starting this entry being a bitch.

I haven't been on a company day and to be honest, I don't really get what the fuss was all about.  I still don't feel part of the company as I have been only working there for over a month and to be frank, I will choose sleep over the celebration.  I have been sleep deprived since working and my body needs rest.  My work is very physically draining, something that I didn't factor in when I applied for the position.  

The company day fell on a Monday and I did work til 7:30PM that Sunday.  I was home before 10PM and woke up at 12 midnight.  I couldn't sleep.  I was scared that I might sleep through my alarm.  I met up my colleague at 3AM to get to Buendia before 4AM.  We were scheduled to leave at half past 4AM.  We make it through the deadline and was in Batangas by 8AM.  Arlene and I slept through the trip.  I was still tired when I woke up.

The program was short.  It was started with a prayer followed by the "folk" dance competition, loyalty awards then finally lunch.  My branch lost but I was happy seeing the result of their hardwork.  They did pretty well.  :)

Enjoying the trip wasn't something that I've expected.  My original plan was to sleep and rest but I came prepared with change of clothes and swimsuit.  I knew that my workmates came prepared too.  

The company day coincided with many celebrations.  That week, Miss Nors got married, Arlene and I's SC phase ended and GCC's last day.  It was a day full of emotions.  Mark - GCC cried just before we departed the resort whilst Arlene and I slept through the trip back to Buendia.  :)  It was a tiring but enjoyable day.

Philippine Eagle Center, Eden Mountain Resort and Matina Town Square in a day

Philippine Eagle Center:

As I've mentioned on my previous blog, Luke wanted to go to the Philippine Eagle Center.  We are currently staying in Marco Polo and when we enquired, the tour would have cost us 9000PHP, that's like one YSL Arty Ring in my language.  :P

Here's what we did.  We open the guide book.  Luke wanted to take the taxi but I don't trust the taxi people here.  It's expensive and they don't give out change.  It's as if we are in Manila.  Anyway, the guidebook said that we have to get off to Calinan and take a motorcycle from there.  Luke asked if we still trust the book and I said yes.  I had to put all my trust to it as I hate the feeling of getting ripped off.  Thankfully, after more than an hour and 35km L3 and motorcycle ride, we reached the Philippine Eagle Center.  

Here's the breakdown of what we've spent versus the 9000PHP Marco Polo Tour.

L3 from CM Recto to Calinan - 80PHP for 2 people

Motorcycle Ride(As in single na motor)  -  100PHP as the guy didn't have change.  We were generous that day.  I was thinking," I want a pimped out tricycle".  We rode a single instead of tricycle.  It was so much fun.

I am not a big fan of zoos but the Philippine Eagle is one of the must see place in Davao.  First, it is not a rip off.  I'll blog later about the Crocodile Park.  Second, the animals feels like they were in their natural habitat.  I can't say anything negative about it.  The Philippine Eagle Cafe is not a rip off too.  Luke and I had so much fun!

Eden Mountain Resort:

I've heard so much good things about this that I can not not go.  I don't know if I've mentioned this in my previous blog entries but Luke and I didn't have a concrete plan about Davao.  We only wrote things that we wanted to do and that's it.  No directions or addresses.  Nothing.  I expected to be greeted by tourist companies in the airport but we weren't.  

Whilst in the L3 to Catilan, I asked the driver how to get to the Eden Mountain Resort.  He said if we wanted to go, get off at Ulas and take a jeep to Toril and from Toril take a tricycle.  That's just what we did.  On our first day and the first time we took the taxi in Davao, the driver offered us to drive to Eden Mountain Resort, return for 2500PHP plus another 1000PHP for the crocodile farm. Good thing we didn't as we were both disappointed with both tourist spots.  I mean, coming from the Philippine Eagle and spending less than 500PHP everything will feel like a rip off.  Luke and I took the Shuttle Tour.  I remember telling Luke that I feel like I paid to hear advertisements.  :P  The spot overlooking Davao and seeing Luke touch Makahiya for the first time were the two good things that came out from it.

The Umbrella.  I asked Kuya why his tricycle is different from the normal tricycle.  He said, they were called "Umbrellas".  Paid 400PHP return from Toril.  I think it's a good deal considering it's 13KM each way.

This is what you get for paying 180PHP each for the snack/ entrance fee.  We both felt ripped off.  We didn't opt for the buffet as we weren't that hungry.

Matina Town Square:

As recommended by Cocoy, we went to Matina Town Square.  It was a Saturday and it was very busy.  This place is a must go for big barkada.  It gives out a inuman feel.  They had a live band playing old karaoke songs that night and made me miss my girls back in Manila.  

Luke and I ate in a place called Goat's eye.  We tried their sizzling goat which Luke and I both love.  We ordered cheese sticks spelt as chiz which Luke couldn't stop making fun of.  We also had calamares.  It was perfectly cooked.  :)  

After Luke commented about the lovely night we were having, I choked with the spice from my sizzling sisig.  I turned tourette at this point and told Luke that I am gonna smash the bottle in his face because I blamed him for not ordering drinks soon enough.  He did say, "kuya" though but they didn't hear him so I had to shout.  I told you I'm f*cking mental.

Underground River Palawan

I've always wanted to go to the Underground River since I saw a show about it years ago but I never thought that it would actually happen.  We grew up with enough money for our daily necessities and going on trips obviously doesn't count as one.  I remember when I first learn what spelunking means.  I stopped using caving then.  It made me feel superior above my elementary schoolmates.  Self Centered Bitch.  

The Sabang Port is 2 hours away from Puerto Princesa City and from there, you have to travel half an hour to get to the Underground River.  The road to Sabang Port is long and winding with few rough roads in between.  People with motion sickness should definitely bring motion sickness medicine with them.  I fight mine with sleeping and will power.  After years of travelling by road, I am gonna say that I am not fully cured from my motion sickness.  :P  

I wasn't prepared for my Underground River trip.  I didn't know that I have to bring ID with me which I will need upon registration.  Our tour guide informed us halfway through the trip.  Good thing I got my wallet with me and inside I had my NBI ID Card.  I wouldn't have the heart to tell everyone about my mistake.  I hate being inconvenience to anyone.  

Inside the Underground River, expect darkness.  I asked our bangkero if we are allowed to bring our own flashlights and he said yes.  Vests and Hardhats were provided by the Underground Tour people but no flashlights.  It was too difficult to take photo.

We stopped by at Sabang Beach for lunch.  I was gutted that we booked in the City.  I really like the pristine White Sand and less touristy feel of Sabang Beach.  I was a bit depressed at this point and Luke did everything to cheer me up.  Thanks.  :)  I am sorry to report but no bitchyness happened this day. Hahaha!

UP Fair 2011

It was my first time to be on a concert backstage and to be honest, the only good thing about it - taking photos with the artists and interacting with them.  Every groupies dream.  :P

When I was in Uni, my cousins and I would frequently go to UP Fair.  Scratch that, we would go to every concert imaginable.  We always went on big groups, mostly men.  But I never felt, not even once, unsafe.  My cousins looked after us.  Thanks.  :)

UP Fair is so different this year.  Gone were the "bakal boys" days, less posers and "pa-alamat na tao", more booths and it was almost organised minus the long delays last night.  UP Fair last night felt different.  I blame the fact that we were on the backstage.  I'd rather be in the crowd but that was just me.

Last night was the night of classics, Razorback, Greyhoundz, Giniling Festival and Sugarfree was there.  We were lucky as it was Sugarfree's last UP Fair.  They are disbanding after 12 years of being together.  :(   It was good seeing them for the last time.

 So groupie ko naman here.  I wanted to take photo with Razorback's front man kaso I was intimidated.  I took this shot so it was a bit blurred.  Akala ko kasi nasa likod ko lang si Lorraine.  Pinangatawanan ko na.  Good thing it turned out okay.  :P

Guy Fawkes

I don't know what's the Guy Fawkes Celebration is about so I asked dear boyfriend what happens during the event.  I jokingly asked if they burn marshmallows on sticks like when  people go on camping telling stories about ghosts.  He said, Guy Fawkes, historically speaking, is a man who attempted to blow up the Parliament in protest of the Protestant religion.  They burn him to death.  He is also a Catholic so "we are burning a Catholic tonight".  We are both Catholic.   Enough said.  

The weather was perfect last night.  It was dry the whole week and it wasn't that cold.  It wouldn't be if you were wearing 2 dresses both knits on different thickness and a knitted jumper with 2 tights and a pair of boots. :P  It was a bit muddy though but it didn't stop me from wearing my boots.  Big mistake.  Now, dear boyfriend has to clean it before he goes back to Australia.  In my defense, he volunteered to do it.  

I thought Bonfire is just gonna be plain bonfire.  Watching the celebration from a far in the past years, I was surprised how organised it was.  They've got rides and food stands.  I was also surprised how organised the people are on the way and back with minimum number of marshalls.  Coming from the Third World, I am in awe of all of these.  

Bonfire starts with torch procession, fireworks display, the one in Wokingham lasted for 30 minutes and finally the burning at the stake.  Wish my family was there to experience it with me but then again, they were in a Birthday Celebration last night.  :P

Talentadong Pinoy X SM Skydome

This is another jologs moment for me.  I go to my Spanish class in the morning and I got nothing to do in the afternoons.  Yesterday, while I was in SM North, I stumbled upon a long queue.  I got curious so I asked what it was - the taping for Talentadong Pinoy.  I gotta be honest here, I heard of the show but I've never seen an episode.  Later, when we were comfortably sitting in the dome, I told the lady next to me that I haven't seen any episodes of Talentadong Pinoy and I would like to know how the show goes.  She looked at me disgusted.  Hahaha!  

The taping took forever!  We were admitted inside just after 2PM but it didn't start until half past 3.  The taping ended at half past 5.  It was worth the experience still but I won't go again.  For anyone who is interested to watch the Talentadong Pinoy Tapings on Skydome, you can catch them on the 14th, 21st, 22nd and 27th of September.  :)
